Battle Report #84: Nemo3 vs Vayl2 (Internal Affairs IX #2)

After getting grinded down by Jarle in first previous match in Internal Affairs IX, I face a visiting player!

I like Nemo3 into Legion. The high damage shooting on feat turn roasts Legion heavies. Main issue with Nemo3 against Vayl2 is keeping him un-assassinated.

Sigurd's list is in the new Legion theme, Oracles of Annihilation, that is soon about to be released!

Artificer General Nemo (75 points)

Objective: Bunker
Theme: Storm Division

Artificer General Nemo & Storm Chaser Finch (Nemo3)
* Squire
* Dynamo
* 2x Firefly
* Lancer
Journeyman Warcaster
* Firefly
Major Katherine Laddermore
5+5 Storm Lances

Sigurd and his good lookin' purple dragons

Vayl, Consul of Everblight (75 points)

Objective: Effigy of Valor
Theme: Oracles of Annihilation

Vayl, Consul of Everblight (Vayl2)
* Succubus
* Archangel
* Carnivean
* Naga Nightlurker
* Nephilim Bolt Thrower
3x Spell Martyr
2x Blighted Nyss Shepherd
2x The Forsaken
Blackfrost Shard

Deployment

I win the die roll. My idea here is to put Nemo3 behind the wall, shoot everything I can, and hopefully have him survive the inevitable assassination run.

Round 1

I forget about Apparition on the Seraph, which means I leave the Electrified Lances too close. Force Field goes up on Nemo3 and Lightning Shroud on one of the Fireflies.

Only one Storm Lance is killed, though, since my opponent makes a mistake with the order of activation and uses Chasten only after the Blessed Seraph attacks. Another Lance falls to the Bolt Thrower on the other side.

Vayl2 has placed herself base to base with the Archangel. Siguard notices and moves in all the solos he can as well, to soak up some leaps.

Round 2

Nemo3 feats and goes to town. I arc two Chain Lightnings at the Archangel first. Then the Archangel is shot off the table by Dynamo. I do not manage to kill the Seraph, though, it lives at 9 boxes. The Bolt Thrower is also badly hurt.

But... I am camping only 1 focus. In hindsight I should only have cast 1 Chain Lightning.

Vayl feats. A path is clared for the Seraph but it is not able to get all the way around the wall. DEF 18 is enough, Vayl does not land all her spells, and I am standing on 3 boxes afterwards.

1-0

Round 3

I proceed to murder everything. Only Vayl2 and one of the Blackfrist Shard are left on the table. Nemo camps 7 Focus.

4-0

Vayl channels spells through the last guy, but again it is not enough. I am left on a single box!

5-0

Cygnar wins on scenario!

Post Mortem

Clearly it was a mistake to not camp 4 Focus, but I was lucky and lived. Vayl2 can almost always get an angle and since I can get so much up on attrition on the feat, it's just dumb to not play safe.

Battle Report #79: Maddox vs Kallus2

Another go with the dual Charger Maddox list, this time against Alex playing Kallus2!

Major Beth Maddox (75 points)

Objective: Bunker
Theme: Storm Division

Major Beth Maddox (Maddox1)
* Squire
* Ironclad
* 2x Charger
Journeyman Warcaster
* Firefly
Captain Arlan Strangewayes
Major Katherine Laddermore
Stormblade Captain
5+5 Storm Lances
6 Stormblades
* Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard

Kallus, Devastation of Everblight (75 points)

Burn, baby, burn! Kallus looks like a fun caster with tons of flame synergy.

Objective: Bunker

Kallus, Devastation of Everblight (Kallus2)
* Azrael
* 2x Raek
* Scythean
* Seraph
The Forsaken
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
10 Croak Raiders
2x Hellmouth

Deployment

One Hellmouth behind a forest and one behind a wall. Annoying things.

I don't really know what to expect from Kallus2, so I do a pretty normal deployment with Blades in the middle and Lances on each flank.

Round 1

His army moves up.

The only thing I can reach is tentacles so I kill some tentacles.

Round 2

Some of my Stormblades get set on fire. Tentacles jam. Hmm, Tentacle jam, sounds good!

I use a Charger and Firefly to unjam the Lances. Charging blades and Lances remove all the Croak Raiders and Scythean, and the Ironclad murders the Seraph. I don't even have to feat.

His army is pretty much gone already, and I have lost half a unit of Stormblades. My opponent concedes.

Cygnar wins by attrition!

Post Mortem

Well, sorry about that one. Kallus seems fun and fluffy, and it was sad I did not really get to see him do his stuff. I do have some doubts about Rube Goldberg lists like this, though, seems like so many things have to line up for Kallus to get a benefit from his feat.

Next game, I face the Iron Mother!

Battle Report #53: Nemo3 vs Absylonia2

Time to put my 10 Storm Lance Nemo3 list to the test! The first game is against Absolynia2, piloted by our resident Press Ganger Alex.

Artificer General Nemo (75 points)

All the cavalry!

Artificer General Nemo & Storm Chaser Finch (Nemo3)
* Reinholdt
* Dynamo
* Firefly
Journeyman Warcaster
* Firefly
Gun Mage Captain Adept
Major Katherine Laddermore
Rhupert Carvolo
5+5 Storm Lances

Absylonia, Daughter of Everblight (75 points)

Absolynia hits hard and has good threat ranges, especially with Proteus (16").

Absylonia, Daughter of Everblight (Absylonia2)
* 2x Carnivean
* Proteus
* 2x Raek
* Seraph
2x Spell Martyr
Strider Deathstalker
The Forsaken
Hellmouth

Deployment

The Dragon wins the roll. The sides seem pretty equal. Absylonia deploys centrally. I deploy Lances on both sides and the rest in the middle. Nemo3 aims for the right side. Hellmouth pops up behind the hut.

Turn 1

The Deathstalker runs into the forest, well within my Lightning range. Proteus gets Bracer.

Left side Lances get Arcane Shield (ARM 20), right side Lances get Electrify (ARM 19), Nemo's Firefly gets Lightning Shroud, and Nemo gets Magnetic Field. I tag the lance in the forest with Flare, and then a firefly bounces off the Lance and fries the Deathstalker.

Turn 2

Proteus munches on the Storm Lance in the forest. The Carniveans use Spiny Growth, so all the heavies in the center are now ARM 20.

Junior's Firefly runs up to act as a spark node. Nemo3 feats. A lot of shooting kills the Carnivean, but I have many low rolls on the leaps and leave Proteus at 10 or so boxes.

I played this a bit bad on the right side. I should have used a Nemo3 shot to clear some tentacles and gotten more Storm Lances free to charge the Hellmouth.

1-0

Turn 3

Absylonia feats, punches back and kills a Firefly, Dynamo, and a couple of left flank Lances.

The Firefly and Lances kill off Proteus and the Seraph and clear the right zone.

3-0

Turn 4

Absolynia has no way to prevent me from scoring two more points, and goes for an impossible assassination run with the Carnivean. It fails.

Cygnar wins by scenario!

Post Mortem

A good start! Nemo3 hits like a truck. The central terrain piece made it hard to get enough shots into the heaviesm and I rolled low, but still I out-attritioned Absylonia just fine.

Battle Report #31 and #32: Caine2 vs Vayl2

I take way too long to play my Caine2 list, so I am going to be dropping him as much as possible. Today I meet Stian playing Vayl2, one of the few spell assassins in WARMACHINE.

Captain Allister Caine (75 points)

Captain Allister Caine
* Reinholdt
* Centurion
* Hunter
Journeyman Warcaster
* Firefly
Gun Mage Captain Adept
Ragman
Rhupert Carvolo
6 Rangers
5 Storm Lances
10 Trencher Infantry

Vayl, Consul of Everblight (75 points)

Vayl's assassination is to cast all her spells for free, which leads to a barrage of damage spells, typically ended with some choice AOEs from the Ravagores.

Vayl, Consul of Everblight
* Naga Nightlurker
* Nephilim Bolt Thrower
* 2x Ravagore
* Raek
* Seraph
3x Blighted Nyss Shepherd
2x Strider Deathstalker
Swamp Gobber Chef
2x Hellmouth

Deployment

Vayl wins the roll and goes first.

Turn 1

Vayl moves up. Occultation goes on the left Hellmouth

Caine casts Bullet Dodger on himself and casts Fire for Effect on a Trencher. The Trenchers move up and CRA away one Hellmouth (needing a 5+ on 2D6 due to FFE).

Shout out to David and Michael on the Cygnar Facebook group for telling me about the FFE trick! It worked great. :D

The GMCA moves up and tags the other Hellmouth. Hunter fires and rolls 11 on 2D6, which exactly kills it.

Another shout out to Barney on the Cygnar Facebook group for giving me the great tip that insane dice on a Hunter also kills a Hellmouth!

Turn 2

Stian shows me how it is done. I am nor sure if I can recount it correctly - but he manages to move a Seraph close to Caine, which is then tagged with the Oculus. The Icy Grip misses and I dodge away. Vayl still manages to clip me with a Deadly Storm, runs op a Raek and fires both Ravagores at it, clipping me twice more. The damage is exactly what he needs. Caine dies.

Legion wins by assassination!

Post Mortem

OK, that was rough. Well, now that I have seen it once, surely I won't fall for it again? Right? All I have to remember now is to keep Caine back so I cannot be clipped so easily, camp more, and also throw Dirge of Mist on him so that Vayl needs at least 13+ to hit with spells.

Someone sure likes to assassinate.

Deployment - Round 2

Pretty much the same.

Turn 1

He moves up, this time keeping the Hellmouth further back so no CRA for me.

I move up. I forget to use Rhupert on Caine2. Also I made a mistake by allocating to the Hunter - he had Occultation and I could not shoot the Hellmouth anyway. So I am left camping 1 and no Dirge. This seems eerily familiar...

Turn 2

Pure spell assassination this time. I dodge an Icy Grip backwards, but two boosted Deadly Storms hit on 11+ and I die.

Legion wins by assassination (again)!

Post Mortem

AAARGH! OK. Well. Next time maybe I will manage to throw Dirge of Mists on Caine2 and not die like an idiot. Twice. Vayl has some serious threat ranges and I need to be much more careful!

Spawn of Everblight #3: Lylyth1 vs Nemo1

Lylyth, Herald of Everblight (5 points)

Lylyth
* Carnivean
* 4x Shredder

Commander Adept Sebastian Nemo (0 points)

Commander Adept Sebastian Nemo
* Charger
* Firefly
* Ironclad

Deployment

Lylyth1 wins the die roll and deploys in safety behind the wall. Nemo1 grabs the hill.

Turn 1

Lylyth1 moves up.

Cygnar gets into position and shoots away one of the Shredders. Nemo1 forgets his plan which was to to feat and fry the Shredders. He is also out of range of the Ironclad and cannot buff it. Well well, no takebacks against kids!

Turn 2

Once again Cygnar has greatly underestimated the power of the Shredders. Parasite, some high dice rolls and bye bye Ironclad.

With so much of the army in ruins, Nemo1 goes for the hail mary. Nemo misses. The Charger misses on both shots. So much for the accuracy of the Swan.

Turn 3

Nemo1 is dragon food.

And Everblight is satisfied.

Spawn of Everblight #2: Lylyth1 vs Axis

After his decisive victory against my Stryker1 my son casts about for a new victim. Fortunately one of the guys at the club is not busy prepping for Clogcon, and he picks up Axis.

Lylyth, Herald of Everblight (5 points)

Lylyth
* Carnivean
* 4x Shredder

Axis, the Harmonic Enforcer (5 points)

Not strictly speaking a legal army, but Thomas decides to throw in some troops so my son can see how they work.

Axis
* Inverter
Optifex Directive
5 Eradicators

Turn 1

Axis wins the die roll and claims the zone.

Looks like I forgot to take a photo in the middle of all the action. What happened was that Lylyth shot and cast Parasite on the Eradicators and a Shredder charged in.

Turn 2

Axis first feats and tries wants to go for a hail mary on Lylyth. he realizes it cannot work so instead he kills a Shredder.

Lylyth commands his Carnivean and Shredders to go to town on the Eradicators. A Shredder triggers Countercharge and gets splatted.

The other Shredders leave only one Eradicator alive.

Turn 3

Axis claims the zone and the remaining Shredders die.

0-2

With Parasite, an assault shot and 7 attacks from the Carnivean the Inverter is grinded into metal filings.

Turn 4

Axis pushes the Carnivean out of the zone. The Optifex Directive charges the Carnivean, it is left at 15 boxes.

0-4

The Carnivean and Lylyth kills off the rest of the troops. Since a normal battlebox game ends when the battlegroup is gone, we declare the game a resounding victory for the glory of Everblight.

Post Mortem

Guess if someone was happy. :D

On the road home:

Me: "So, was the day as good as you though it would be?"
Him: "It was better! What was that big dragon called?"
Me: "Archangel"
Him: "I want an Archangel for Christmas just as much as an iPhone."

Spawn of Everblight #1: Lylyth1 vs Stryker1

My son got to visit our wargaming club for the first time! He was so excited yesterday that he was bouncing around in the living room. Today we packed his miniatures and the paint, and off we went.

Lylyth, Herald of Everblight (5 points)

Lylyth
* Carnivean
* 4x Shredder

Commander Coleman Stryker (0 points)

Commander Coleman Stryker
* Charger
* Firefly
* Ironclad

First things first. The correct front arcs were painted on all his models.

Turn 1

Lylyth moves up and grabs the zone. Offense is the best defense!

Charger gets Snipe and shreds a Shredder. Ironclad get Arcane Shield, moves up and contests the zone. Look at those little puny Shredders, what could they possibly do to an Ironclad?

Turn 2

Lylyth moves into the forest to get Stealth. She shoots the Ironclad and applies Parasite, and then shoots it again and applies Blood Lure. Carnivean assaults and blasts the Ironclad. The Shredder that is out of range runs in, and the rest of them charge for free with flank. The Ironclad has his cortex blown out his ear, and left hand crippled. Little blighted buggers, they hit hard!

Ironclad swings and kills off a Shredder with his good arm.

Turn 3

One Shredder frenzies but does not kill off his pack mate. Lylyth feats and tags the Charger with Parasite and Blood Lure, and after another assault spray and charge attack both the Ironclad and Charger die.

0-2

Stryker really has only one option. He spends his stack hacking the Carnivean to bits before it can eat him alive.

Turn 4

Lylyth aims and hits Stryker with the Parasite. The Shredders move in and munch on Stryker.

And so it ends. Poor Stryker!

Legion wins on assassination!

Post Mortem

Everyone agreed that we had had an excellent time playing WARMACHINE! My son was ready for another round.

tirsdag 18. oktober 2016

Beermachine!

We had a fun doubles tournament at the club!

I played Caine2, and Alex played Vayl2, 2x 50 points. I could not go to the first game so I registered a stand in - but a spot opened so Alex and I were there for games 2 and 3.

Game 2 was against Jarle and Christian. These guys are really good and had brought good lists, so we knew this would be uphill. I will let Jarle tell the full tale on his excellent Courage of Caspia blog.

Getting ready for game

Game 2

The masters at work.

Game 2 under way!

Ready for WAR!

Game 3

Game 3 was against Wormwood and Vlad1. Unfortunately our opponents were not aware of how Caine2 worked. There was open LOS to Wormwood, so we debuffed him with the Shard and then Head Lumberjack Caine walked up and feated. The tree was immediately felled. A bit sad since this could have turned into a great game, but friendly tournaments are also tournaments.

Now firing at POW20. How I miss Ayana & Holt in my Caine2 list.

Measure Twice, Assassinate Once.
My Lucky Charm, painted by my son 3 years ago!
Last two games in progress

Due to our high SoS after meeting Jarle and Christian (the winners) we actually placed 2nd!

Full tournament results are at Tiebreak.
