Battle Report #90: Maddox vs Morvahna2

For the last game of the day I face Morvahna2. Her feat is that she can return pretty much all her killed infantry and cavalry to the game, so clearly she is a very heavily attrition focused caster. I decide to see if Maddox can deal with this.

Deployment

Jonas wins the die roll and deploys in a long line. Prey goes on my Stormblades.

My plan is to use the large obstruction near my zone to hide Maddox, use the left hand Lances and center group to harass his zone, and otherwise just try to kill as much as possible and clear by zone if I can.

Round 1

Circle dudes and dudettes run up the table. Morvahna casts Fog of War to make it harder to hit stuff.

I decide to get things started by moving up a Storm Lance and hit it with electricity. A couple of Bloodtrackers die. Stormblades minifeat and get Dauntless Resolve. Left hand Lances get Arcane Shield. Right hand Charger gets Snipe, and shoots away two of the Wold Riders. Assail goes on the Ironclad.

Round 2

His forces mostly run to engage. Three Stormblades go down.

The heavies are mostly not in range, so I hold my feat, and start killing stuff. Most of his frontline disappears.

Round 3

Morvahna feats and brings back pretty much all her Wold Riders and Ravagers. The models I did not kill wipe out a lot of my Lances, I have only 4 left now.

I am unsure about what to do. Try to kill the front line again, or go for Morvahna? I decide to go for the assassination, which turns out to be clearly the wrong play. I miss a lot, but even if I had rolled better I doubt I could have done it. I should have played conservatively and cleared models instead.

It's getting pretty late and I seems to be losing the attrition game, so we call it a night.

Circle wins by attrition!

Post Mortem

I think I have fair chances if I go for attrition play instead of that assassination, but Morvahna has a very grindy list so I would estimate that the matchup is fairly even.
