On average any player will win the game 50% of the time, since ties are close to impossible. If it's possible to get a tie, I am ignoring it for this calculation.</p><p></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">The math</h2>The chance that this result happened by chance can be computed using the Binominal Test - you can try it here for yourself: <a href="https://www.socscistatistics.com/tests/binomial/default2.aspx">Easy Binomial Test Calculator (socscistatistics.com)</a><p></p><p>There were 292 games played (n), 166 (or 167) games were won by the first player (K), and the chance of winning a game (p) is 0.5. Inserting the numbers show that the chance of the first player getting at least this many wins by chance is .011, or 1.1%. So we can conclude that it is almost certain that the first player win rate is due to going first being better, and not due to random chance.<br /><br />I am not a professional statistician, but this seems rather straight forward - feel free to inform me if the calculation is wrong.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji5W7Qk0X_IZoxOD_di-T2wBq1ErUs1eiwnkrIEfL-nP-djRuCCQInx5tBymzkUAvHzigg5U_43yFajNgY2WkzsgJ0j4OPaKIepi-qzQfykWWBD9nt9pcEDsczinnPzihhspRRN8js9Na_QH4RYluNMro-EtUio0nQ8NI-rexe_XtSZ5i2vWKP0Qm2DaY/s4080/20231021_155341.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3060" data-original-width="4080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji5W7Qk0X_IZoxOD_di-T2wBq1ErUs1eiwnkrIEfL-nP-djRuCCQInx5tBymzkUAvHzigg5U_43yFajNgY2WkzsgJ0j4OPaKIepi-qzQfykWWBD9nt9pcEDsczinnPzihhspRRN8js9Na_QH4RYluNMro-EtUio0nQ8NI-rexe_XtSZ5i2vWKP0Qm2DaY/w400-h300/20231021_155341.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Went second against Lucant, pushed off scenario<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Discussion</h2><p>Every single player I have talked to during the WTC agrees that going first is a huge advantage. One just said "don't even look at the table or matchup, always go first". The problem is as follows:<br /><br />Most armies can run units (almost) to the middle of the table turn 1, leaving the opponent the choice of not grabbing much - if any - table space, or getting alphaed top of 2. Both are bad. </p><p>Many armies can run, then defensive / control feat plus run, scoring zones on their side while leaving the second player scrambling to not lose on points top of 3.</p><p>I had several matches at the WTC where I knew that if I won the die roll I had good chances, and if I lost I was already in trouble. And that was exactly what happened, if I went first I had a fairly good time (even if I lost - I am not all that good), but going second was brutally hard.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtN9IP85yC6GPErxrjreF3JwJuPh0vEqtDVw_U489RpqKGYGVPVchqYs9er3hWhgQojOgVAfG-jYBEy1Uc5Nsm9c-RdVidfFu_a0DsEexJpcExu4EotOy9uQ_L5WT_LwOCEndg10jyhd5R0FdQTNEQ8Zzs1gyOR6tIgcS-WKRYW9Qm5UKktBqPwO8enJ0/s4080/20231021_105014.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3060" data-original-width="4080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtN9IP85yC6GPErxrjreF3JwJuPh0vEqtDVw_U489RpqKGYGVPVchqYs9er3hWhgQojOgVAfG-jYBEy1Uc5Nsm9c-RdVidfFu_a0DsEexJpcExu4EotOy9uQ_L5WT_LwOCEndg10jyhd5R0FdQTNEQ8Zzs1gyOR6tIgcS-WKRYW9Qm5UKktBqPwO8enJ0/w400-h300/20231021_105014.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Going first against Borka</td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p>I even had one game where I had to move AD units backwards bottom of 1 to not get charged. <div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
I painted my Navigators over Easter. I chose to paint them all as an African guild ball team, complete with clothes inspired by various African clothing. I usually don't do a lot of freehand, so it was fun with a new challenge. The non-freehand parts I kept fairly plain, to increase the contrast.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Skin color</h3>
<br />
Haven't really painted much black skin before, so I tried this.<br />
<br />
Basecoat: P3 Umbral Umber<br />
Shade: GW Nuln Oil wash<br />
Highlight: P3 Umbral Umber + P3 Jack Bone<br />

<h2>
Round 2</h2>
<br />
Corsair pulls in and takes out Graves and Obulus takes out Hag. I then promptly forget Vileswarm’s ability on takeout and pop him right inside my scrum, dealing 3 damage poison to pretty much everyone near the end of the turn. 23 damage on my team for taking out the mascot, this is really stellar play! 3-2 to me.<br />

The winner in the main event will be invited to the World Championship, last chance! I got close to a tournament win in Hungary, so victory here could be within reach, with a bit of luck...<br />
<br />
There were visitors from England, Spain, Poland, Chech Republic, several Finns and two Norwegians. The other Norwegian is my WTC team mate Kim.<br />
<br />
My luggage was lost by the airline, but of course I had all the important stuff (minis and tools) in the hand luggage. I mean, who needs clean socks and deodorant anyway?<br />
<br />
The event started with 2 parallel 3-round warm up tournaments on Friday. I thought this was a very good idea, to get into form to the main event without being totally exhausted, and plenty of time to socialize.<br />
<br />
I have slightly changed my lineup to try out Veteran Sakana. My favorite Angel had to go, I really enjoy playing her - but Sakana does the first turn receiving goal almost as well.<br />
<br />
Tournament reports will be up soon. In the meantime, enjoy this excellent conversion by HP. Green LEDs! :D<br />

<br />
We give everyone 3 random races to pick from. I get Federation of Sol (Blue), Remi takes the Naalu Collective (Green), Dag-Erling goes for the Nekro Virus (Red), and Leif can not resist the temptation of starting with War Suns and takes Embers of Muaat (Yellow).<br />
<br />
The galaxy is split with mostly hazards and empty space dividing it into one area with Sol and Naalu, and one with Nekro and Muaat.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 1</h2>
I get a pretty perfect start. My Strategy Cards were Leadership and Politics. After grabbing the nearest system, Warfare secondary allows me to build another cruiser at home. Diplomacy gives me two untaps. I tech to Gravity Drive, and then I am able to leapfrog next to Mecatol, and also grab a green tech planet. Six planets after the first turn! Four of them are Hazards so I score Corner the Market, too.<br />
<br />
My secret objective is the one to finish off a fleet with a PDS, a really rubbish objective, I have no plans to go PDS route.<br />
<br />
Sol: 1, Rest: 0<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eldROYsnPws/W3CoGkSrxRI/AAAAAAAAJvc/Mca4vKPU06UrbFLVcCHVg0kTA__kXuZFwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-08-12%2B12.47.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eldROYsnPws/W3CoGkSrxRI/AAAAAAAAJvc/Mca4vKPU06UrbFLVcCHVg0kTA__kXuZFwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-08-12%2B12.47.13.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 2</h2>
<br />
I take Imperial and Trade. I start off by grabbing Mecatol on my first move. This is when it gets pretty weird. Nekro offers an alliance and agrees to divide up the planets with Muaat, even giving a Ceasefire. Instead of moving on Mecatol, as agreed, Muaat breaks the truce and blows up Nekro's fleet with his War Sun. Evidently Leif still remembered being stabbed in the face by Dag-Erling in the previous game, and he is out for blood!<br />
<br />
I am quite happy, I was ready to abandon Mecatol after playing Imperial. Now I got to build a PDS there instead... perhaps it will hold...<br />
<br />
Due to a misplay Muaat only brings one infantry to land on the Nekro homeworld... which was shot down by the PDS. Nekro survives... barely...<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 3</h2>
<br />
We had a fairly uneventful round on my part, but Muaat and Nekro kept fighting.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PBiMpUWtSxI/W3CoGGzVwmI/AAAAAAAAJvU/oPz6ItqpV7wbREaX98f4LrjijYQHP5ZYwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-08-12%2B14.27.14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PBiMpUWtSxI/W3CoGGzVwmI/AAAAAAAAJvU/oPz6ItqpV7wbREaX98f4LrjijYQHP5ZYwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-08-12%2B14.27.14.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I am pretty happy with how it's going. I skip a green tech so now I get 4 command tokens per turn. I score Intimidate Council.<br />
<br />
Sol: 4, Muaat: 1, Naalu: 1, Nekro: 0<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 4</h2>
<br />
I take Imperial again. I score, but get get evicted by Naalu's - he already has the super fighters. Glad to see at least one of my opponents is being responsible, or this will be a short game. I build a lot of fleet and grab some other planets from Naalu, just to keep him busy. Nekro manages to kill the War Sun in a last ditch effort, allowing them to rebuild at home. Muaat builds another War Sun.<br />
<br />
Sol: 5, Muaat: 1, Naalu: 1, Nekro: 0<br />
<br />
We grab pizza and Dag-Erling's excellent home made pale ale.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P24BlQzZgWQ/W3CoI3lNrLI/AAAAAAAAJvo/ZKGzmsLRRVU9hD2GC3sBFBd5l7pWPHz1QCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-08-12%2B15.30.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P24BlQzZgWQ/W3CoI3lNrLI/AAAAAAAAJvo/ZKGzmsLRRVU9hD2GC3sBFBd5l7pWPHz1QCLcBGAs/s640/2018-08-12%2B15.30.47.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 5</h2>
<br />
Naalu moves out of Mecatol. I am not sure why. I move in. I score Develop Weaponry (2 unit techs) and my secret objective Learn Secrets of the Cosmos (fleet near 3 anomalies).<br />
<br />
I am at 7 points, and when Manipulate Galactic Law is flipped I am pretty sure I cannot be stopped.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jX_zfhAY4tk/W3CoIgkdogI/AAAAAAAAJvk/9rqeSERtfn4MKot05C5doBWRGgUGV8g3gCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-08-12%2B17.20.07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jX_zfhAY4tk/W3CoIgkdogI/AAAAAAAAJvk/9rqeSERtfn4MKot05C5doBWRGgUGV8g3gCLcBGAs/s640/2018-08-12%2B17.20.07.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 6</h2>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I take Imperial to force Naalu to immediately go for Mecatol. The 8 infantry I end up with are not enough to keep away Naalu's flagship and fighter swarm. I get kicked out again.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
I then play Imperial to score Manipulate Galactic Law before I can lose too many planets.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
My 21 infantry at Sol get hit by the plague. Net result? I lose 2 troops after rolling 5+ on 7 of 9 kills.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
In the status phase I score Lead from the Front, for 10 points!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--o-sEt_upxE/W3CoJ3ZS5aI/AAAAAAAAJvw/GIp8usQHsi8q2_W9Ew_DA5cJ4QyKSO9IgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-08-12%2B19.06.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--o-sEt_upxE/W3CoJ3ZS5aI/AAAAAAAAJvw/GIp8usQHsi8q2_W9Ew_DA5cJ4QyKSO9IgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-08-12%2B19.06.13.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
Sol 10<br />

<br />
<br />
Another sweet victory, helped by the never-ending revenge of Muaat! Naalu did what he could, but my lead was too much.<br />

So, after work last Friday we went depressing dungeon crawling! The art design is bleak, which seems right and proper.<br />
<br />
Dark Souls must be the first board game I have ever seen that actually copies the concept of grinding from the computer game. When you are defeated, or just think you cannot clear the next room, you go back to the first tile, get all your resources returned - and the monsters respawn! While very thematic, since Dark Souls the computer game is a game where you just die and die and die, I am not sure whether it was a wise move to keep it... once you have gotten a few upgrades the low level rooms are pretty easy to do, so basically you just waste time playing them again.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
After clearing a few rooms, our somewhat under-powered party get to the boss. Most of the stuff we had found was magic weapons, but the boss higher magic defense. So they did not really help a lot.<br />
<br />
The mechanic here is that the boss has a sequence of moves that will be repeated, so when you know what the boss is doing, you can place your adventurers so that attacks will not hit your entire party.<br />
<br />

Yep. They have that in the box, as well.<br />

<br />
<br />
We had fun, the game is decent, and the boss fight was quite challenging. The miniatures are quite nice, not quite the same as miniature games, but way better than most board games.<br /><br />I have just played the dungeon crawler Gloomhaven all summer, and it's pretty hard not to compare games here. The combat and levels in Dark Souls are quite repetitive and simplistic, nowhere as challenging and varied as Gloomhaven. The Dark Souls campaign seems pretty much identical to just playing the base game more times, keeping your gear between levels.<br /><br />Since players in Dark Souls only have the objective of winning as a group, all decisions are made as a group. This removes one of the most fun things in cooperative games - the option to sometimes be selfish and not cooperate.<br />
<br />
Verdict: 3/6. An OK game, no huge flaws, and nothing that really stood out either. The game did feel a little bit repetitive, even on the first playthrough. I did like that the boss fight was really difficult. We definitely had a fun time, so I'd be happy to give it another go.<br />

I was pretty excited to try the game, since I absolutely love the Gloomhaven legacy game.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4V3-0EVtYxg/W21v1J6ErwI/AAAAAAAAJuM/eYA-gZ5oGkEX93Ms-IWdcjfHiKKJX7o0QCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-08-09%2B18.15.38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4V3-0EVtYxg/W21v1J6ErwI/AAAAAAAAJuM/eYA-gZ5oGkEX93Ms-IWdcjfHiKKJX7o0QCLcBGAs/s640/2018-08-09%2B18.15.38.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The basic game is to build resource buildings that use resources from other resource buildings (for example, People + Stone are required to build Bricks. Scoring buildings are placed as the game goes on, and if one is connected to your resources of the correct type, then you get points.<br />
<br />
It was not that bad in the beginning when options were rather limited, but the complexity soon explodes. You need influence on resources to be able to build the more advanced resource buildings, and then you need to build roads, and you need to time everything so that another player does not grab things before you. This can be pretty hard to control since other players also decide what order actions happen in and what those actions are.<br />
<br />
As the game progresses it gets pretty crazy. I found myself having to think and check and think and check all the time in order to figure out what was actually connected where, and who could do what. Add in a lot of restrictions on where buildings can be placed, voting, special action cards, special connections only one player can use, workers, special building abilities, special racial abilities, and it just becomes <b>way </b>too much stuff to keep track of.<br />
<br />
I played <a href="http://blog.lightningshroud.com/2018/08/twilight-imperium.html">Twilight Imperium for the first time last weekend</a> and even that monster of a game was way easier to get into than Founders of Gloomhaven.<br />
<br />
Maybe there is some fun to be had if you play it a lot of times and start learning the strategies... but there is no way I will bother to put in all those play sessions when there are a bunch of more accessible and fun games to pick from.<br />
<br />
Verdict: This game is not very good. Three of the four players seemed fairly confident they would never play it again. I'll generously give it 2 out of 6 for being pretty and with good quality components.<br />

I got a demo of this game on Arcon this year. My son thought it looked awesome, and I was pretty impressed too... so when a used copy appeared in the Cardboard Cræck group I snapped it up - after some bidding, even, which seemed appropriate.<br />
<br />
We took the 6 suggested starting races and default galaxy, and everyone got dealt a random race. Going around the table, I got Empirates of Hacan, Leif got the Sardakk N'orr, Dag-Erling got the Universities of Jol-Nar, and Lars got Barony of Letnev.<br />

<br />
<br />
The game started with me sprinting for Mecatol Rex and getting there first, also playing an Imperial. Looking nice! Everyone got worried. I did throw up a PDS at Mecatol, and a fairly big fleet.<br />
<br />
There was a lot of fun with the agendas. My ambassador even got shot at an inopportune moment! Nothing really gummed up my plans, though.<br />
<br />
It took some time before I got evicted by the Sardakk N'orr, who got duly stabbed in the face by Jol-Nar. Never trust a fish!<br />
<br />
I had 7 points at that time. I turtled up as well as I could and scored the last 3 points right after. Jol-Nar thought they would win on the next turn... but there was no next turn!<br />

We did a couple of rule mistakes (everyone was new to 4th edition). Everyone got 1 command instead of 2 each turn (yeah, that misprinted tech card tricked us). Also, we started with commodities. I discovered only after the game that you don't get them at the beginning.<br />

<br />
This game is great fun! Epic, the rules are good, and the game flows well. Randomized objectives are great in games like this, continually forcing people to do stuff they rather maybe not do.<br />
<br />
I especially like the excellent rules for trade and diplomacy. The trade good system forces players to interact all the time to get their extra resources, and all that silly crap and backstabbing going on at the Galactic Council is just hilarious.<br />

Steve Margetson, who works as a game designer at Steamforged Games, was invited by our excellent LFGS <a href="https://www.outland.no/">Outland</a> to give a talk. Also, he would join us Norwegians on Sunday for the Brewer's Cup hosted at <a href="https://brygg.no/">Brygg</a>. Our first international Guild Ball visitor ever, I think. Also, he brought Falconers, making this the first ever tournament for that guild.<br />
<br />
I had met him once before at BonesCon, nice to see him again, such a nice guy!<br />
<br />
We talked for a couple of hours about GB game design, the future, and got a spoiler - Horizon will only be worth 1 VP. Local pundit Stig was giddy with excitement, that man loves his spoilers. :D<br />
<br />
<h2>
Brewers Cup</h2>
<br />
I brought my now pretty much fixed Fishermen lineup to the tournament.<br />
<br />
Captains: Corsair, Shark<br />
Mascot: Tentacles<br />
Squaddies: Angel, Greyscales, Hag, Jac, Sakana, Siren<br />
Union: Gutter ( while it lasts... :D )<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WaldmIPShIs/WwwpIzrv43I/AAAAAAAAHw8/g6Sh9-tRS6AyYMj5lL8W7E6nLnJucV8ggCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B13.51.28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WaldmIPShIs/WwwpIzrv43I/AAAAAAAAHw8/g6Sh9-tRS6AyYMj5lL8W7E6nLnJucV8ggCLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B13.51.28.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Looks like you can learn to brew beer here, this must be tested at some point</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I had spent some time looking at Falconers in case I was lucky to get a game. Corsair seems like the better pick, Falconers are fragile, and Corsair and Jac can tank better than the Shark lineup.<br />
<br />
Pub opens, I go for one of my summertime favorites, Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc, game on!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 1: Corsair vs Theron</h2>
<br />
Gaspard has been away for a couple of months, nice to see him back!<br />
<br />
I don't like Shark into Hunters, so it's going to be Corsair. I pick Angel for the first turn goal threat. He picks all the damage dealers including the new Veteran Minx. Jac gets scrum control duty.<br />
<br />
Fishermen: Corsair, Tentacles, Angel, Hag, Jac, Gutter<br />
Hunters: Theron, Fahad, Hearne, Veteran Minx, Seenah, Zarola<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MTLbw66P6Yc/WwwpIruasvI/AAAAAAAAHw0/3i9mTaa85XsFKKfpzoVhHfEILh4dmdCIQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B12.47.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MTLbw66P6Yc/WwwpIruasvI/AAAAAAAAHw0/3i9mTaa85XsFKKfpzoVhHfEILh4dmdCIQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B12.47.59.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
First round, Hag grabs the ball and passes it to Angel. Corsair pulls in Theron and he and Gutter get him down to 5 health. Angel scores as the last activation, and moves up to engage the bear. I had forgotten about the automatic 2" push so that was not a great idea.<br />
<br />
Next round, my first activation is to put Angel on 6 defense, to make the Hunters spend as much influence as possible on her. She has already scored so she is not so important now.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ztGMf_4tROE/WwwpI1AYDPI/AAAAAAAAHw4/W2nfjqRbwZEcRs3LJkFws4qD_uHFlVHQwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B13.27.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ztGMf_4tROE/WwwpI1AYDPI/AAAAAAAAHw4/W2nfjqRbwZEcRs3LJkFws4qD_uHFlVHQwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B13.27.54.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Gutter takes out Theron, then Shark waddles up and starts beating on Zarola. I lose Angel. Jac resets the scrum, moving out Hearne and the Bear and leaving Minx and Zarola engaged.<br />
<br />
Corsair takes out Zarola and Minx, and then everyone piles up on Hearne after Hag pulls him into the crowdout. Hearne goes down. Fishermen win 12-2.<br />
<br />
I think having more control maybe makes for a better Hunters lineup than going pure beater like this list.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 2: Shark vs Tapper</h2>
<br />
Corsair is not happy with Tapper and all the Tough Hide, and Esters ignores a drag and has good control. So I drop Shark, even if I am not receiving. Next beer on tap: Brooklyn Lager.<br />
<br />
<br />
Fishermen: Shark, Tentacles, Greyscales, Hag, Sakana, Siren<br />
Brewers: Tapper, Scum, Friday, Hooper, Spigot, Veteran Decimate<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SkzVqxUcsz4/WwwpKUnBrrI/AAAAAAAAHxA/fTh2jlHdICMa0u4sRtbgt2nE4yWfAcN9ACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B14.31.29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SkzVqxUcsz4/WwwpKUnBrrI/AAAAAAAAHxA/fTh2jlHdICMa0u4sRtbgt2nE4yWfAcN9ACLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B14.31.29.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Shark kicks, Hooper grabs the ball, passes it to Spigot, Shark does Shark things, goal! A good start. Since I saw a goal run I went for it immediately, even if it meant Shark would almost certainly die.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vYJSbzjrUOk/WwwpKnC444I/AAAAAAAAHxE/BMIsNchy5J85K_DEHjufKQ5g_A2mvJ8_wCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B14.37.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vYJSbzjrUOk/WwwpKnC444I/AAAAAAAAHxE/BMIsNchy5J85K_DEHjufKQ5g_A2mvJ8_wCLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B14.37.13.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Shark survives the first round, for some reason. Friday is holding the ball but I can get to her with Greyscales, so Fredrik is forced to use Friday to take out Shark. Sakana gets the ball and kicks it away so that Siren can get it. Decimate pushes Sakana off the table. Score is 4-4.<br />
<br />
Fredrik was really nice to give me a takeback after I head miscalculated the dice when Sakana was trying to get the ball - I thought I did not get a critical dodge, but I had forgotten Anatomical Precision for some reason. Maybe the beer was getting to me. Great sport!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gnRLSotF748/WwwpKw713vI/AAAAAAAAHxI/kHN1pOwf6mMVI8HsuHk785hbwfzk82jBACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B14.55.23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gnRLSotF748/WwwpKw713vI/AAAAAAAAHxI/kHN1pOwf6mMVI8HsuHk785hbwfzk82jBACLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B14.55.23.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The ball is passed around the pitch until it ends up with Greyscales, who scores. Shark is then able to zoom up the pitch and get hold of the ball again, making it 12-4.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZkJnIhQqews/WwwpLvUbBRI/AAAAAAAAHxM/l4Zj40USrfUk5N5SjMOEchnsFQbA13GwACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B15.29.45.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZkJnIhQqews/WwwpLvUbBRI/AAAAAAAAHxM/l4Zj40USrfUk5N5SjMOEchnsFQbA13GwACLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B15.29.45.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Finally, I got revenge! I am pretty sure the last time I beat Fredrik was last year, I think he had at least 5 straight wins against me.<br />
<br />
We had a discussion about the game afterwards. We agreed his main mistake was not using Friday to kill the ball. 5/1 is tricky to deal with for Fishermen, since my tackles are at 2. The worst option is Greyscales with a 21% per attack to get the ball. Shark has 32%. My best bet is Sakana, with 53% due to Anatomical Precision. Siren only gets one shot with her Seduction, however it has a 70% chance to land. If Friday is in cover or I am forced into crowd outs, it gets a lot worse.<br />
<br />
I think the matchup is playable by either faction. Certainly the threat and flexibility of Veteran Decimate makes it a lot more even than it used to be.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TiF3dYj0hWs/WwwpMXLk0CI/AAAAAAAAHxQ/97HY5PIkHuskN9ksPIqQEN1CWO1Xq4qCgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B15.41.12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TiF3dYj0hWs/WwwpMXLk0CI/AAAAAAAAHxQ/97HY5PIkHuskN9ksPIqQEN1CWO1Xq4qCgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B15.41.12.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 3</h2>
<br />
<br />
Last match I get Gaute playing Masons, and since we are the only two who are 2-0 this will be the last match. This matchup is list chicken. Corsair does not want Hammer, who outfights him, and Shark versus Honour is at best even. At least I am receiving. I drop Shark and get Hammer, which makes me happy. Another Blanc 1664, and off we go!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UsmlLKyRUfs/WwwpM9cYLwI/AAAAAAAAHxU/7aT3wNSk7R48Fd__AdaCh0m8kiLmPa2xgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-05-27%2B16.52.38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UsmlLKyRUfs/WwwpM9cYLwI/AAAAAAAAHxU/7aT3wNSk7R48Fd__AdaCh0m8kiLmPa2xgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-05-27%2B16.52.38.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I blind Hammer and Shark lands the first turn goal. I am not able to get away from his threat range, though, so Shark gets boxed in.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Round 2, Mallet takes out Shark and Hammer drops Siren, so we are back at 4-4. I get the ball with Sakana and score again. Hammer hammers Sakana into the dirt.<br />
<br />
Flint receives the ball but is engaged by Shark. He has to run out of my melee to reach the goal. I bonus time the parting blow and get a pretty lucky 5 hits (25% chance). This allows me to get the ball away from his guys and over to Greyscales.<br />
<br />
Shark is taken out again, but now Gaute runs out of time. It's probably impossible for him to get 2 takeouts in time, but I do my goal run anyway since he cannot really get hold of the ball even if I miss. The final score is 12-8 to the Fishermen. Victory!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Post Mortem</h2>
<br />
Well, that went well! Both Fredrik and I were checking Longshanks in the bar afterwards. Damn it, but he is still ahead of me!<br />
<br />

Steve had time for a game afterwards - so I got my Falconers match, which I will post soon!<br />

This time I brought my wife & kid along for the trip, making it a long weekend in beautiful Budapest. Pro tip for the married: Getting time for tournaments is easier<br />

Things got pretty stressed during the tournament, 5 games in a single day, with very little time for breaks. So going through the pictures I see that I have way too little to do the normal battle reports here, but I'll give a brief overview.<br />

<h2>
Match 1: Corsair vs Ferrite</h2>
<br />
My first game was against Gordon Johnston, super nice guy who even gave a little gift before the match - a postcard from Northern Ireland, a couple of dice, and a proxy base!<br />
<br />
Fishermen: Corsair, Tentacles, Angel, Hag, Sakana, Gutter<br />
Blacksmiths: Ferrite (Captain), Alloy, Cinder, Furnace, Hearth, Iron<br />
<br />
My picks here were both the Anatomical Precision models, of course. Not so sure about why I picked Angel here, I usually prefer her when receiving.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTTidjqZOTw/WwpzD9b00kI/AAAAAAAAHts/Tat7mgKqYMgKbe60Szno2qEcWmZCiD2jwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B09.08.59-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTTidjqZOTw/WwpzD9b00kI/AAAAAAAAHts/Tat7mgKqYMgKbe60Szno2qEcWmZCiD2jwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B09.08.59-2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Corsair kicked. The first round I grabbed Cinder and took her out with Gutter. Gordon tried to keep his pieces far away, giving me control of the center of the board. I know Corsair is scary - but I think giving up control of the center is pretty dangerous. 2-0 to Fishermen.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ozkFS6eXuI/WwpzFReL88I/AAAAAAAAHt0/xSx9SicZNh48c1-3SnUS2BMf5OtQjRfGACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B10.15.03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ozkFS6eXuI/WwpzFReL88I/AAAAAAAAHt0/xSx9SicZNh48c1-3SnUS2BMf5OtQjRfGACLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B10.15.03.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Second round, Alloy tried to flank to the far right on the pitch - so close that Angel was able to charge in and push him straight off the pitch! Not often Angel does a takeout... but today it happened. 4-0 to Fishermen.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--NNNS7i1gUk/WwwH0b8NuPI/AAAAAAAAHwk/U9dPbly-7Lg9h7BmaJ8FQSpLB5TZB5vlQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC00708.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1062" data-original-width="1600" height="424" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--NNNS7i1gUk/WwwH0b8NuPI/AAAAAAAAHwk/U9dPbly-7Lg9h7BmaJ8FQSpLB5TZB5vlQCLcBGAs/s640/DSC00708.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After this, the Blacksmiths started punching back. Iron took out Hag, then I got the ball with Sakana and landed a goal. I cannot quite recall what happened next, but I pretty sure Blacksmiths scored. I finished the game off with the Cap'n himself using his legendary and scoring. Final score: 12-6 to the Blacksmiths.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oTQL9XqrZcg/WwpzFopVisI/AAAAAAAAHt4/aRkajzsFsusCg-2zZRuyRr8irMJemWkfgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B10.42.18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oTQL9XqrZcg/WwpzFopVisI/AAAAAAAAHt4/aRkajzsFsusCg-2zZRuyRr8irMJemWkfgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B10.42.18.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<h2>
Match 2: Corsair vs Ratcatchers</h2>
<br />
Fishermen: Corsair, Tentacles, Angel, Hag, Jac, Gutter<br />
Ratcatchers: The box.<br />
<br />
Played this game against Attila Kovacs from Hungary.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gv-HxAk3xuo/WwpzFxnjdeI/AAAAAAAAHt8/4OQ90TMz9cMC5Wax9mnhqZTJ1eFKCDK_gCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B11.17.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gv-HxAk3xuo/WwpzFxnjdeI/AAAAAAAAHt8/4OQ90TMz9cMC5Wax9mnhqZTJ1eFKCDK_gCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B11.17.20.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My notes here are pretty limited. I kicked. The game started off with Corsair taking out Miasma quickly. Piper then did a goal run with Pelage doing the kick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tud08K7cSdA/WwpzHndN93I/AAAAAAAAHuE/s-GJVEzeqLkGDvrDOEgltrey45ObyakfgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B11.32.17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tud08K7cSdA/WwpzHndN93I/AAAAAAAAHuE/s-GJVEzeqLkGDvrDOEgltrey45ObyakfgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B11.32.17.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Corsair ball then kept trundling up the center, while I did takeout after takeout. Tentacles babysat the ball. Piper fell in round 2.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_a4RAqDubZM/WwpzHqkVQ4I/AAAAAAAAHuI/2WG0ejCo9y4duqcCZTAyzsN7u98Uk2IZwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B12.12.07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_a4RAqDubZM/WwpzHqkVQ4I/AAAAAAAAHuI/2WG0ejCo9y4duqcCZTAyzsN7u98Uk2IZwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B12.12.07.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
He did get one more takeout, I think it was Gutter. I kept beating up his models, controlling the ball, and using Jac to reposition pieces. I then finally passed the ball over to Angel, who closed out the game. Final result was 12-6 to the Fishermen.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 3: Corsair vs Shark</h2>
<br />
Piratey Fishermen: Corsair, Tentacles, Angel, Hag, Jac, Gutter<br />
Kicky Fishermen: Shark, Tentacles, Angel, Greyscales, Sakana, Siren<br />
<br />
Next game was a mirror against Sylwester Szewczyk from Poland.<br />
<br />
I was sure it was going to be a Corsair mirror and was pretty happy when my opponent dropped Shark. Getting the ball of Corsair is not easy for a Shark team, outside Siren. My plan was simple: Hold the ball, kill his models.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZmWHphEUvBc/WwpzJbiVQwI/AAAAAAAAHuQ/UuvidMRVFFs7cn8u3396ocscqwJH61V9ACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B13.52.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZmWHphEUvBc/WwpzJbiVQwI/AAAAAAAAHuQ/UuvidMRVFFs7cn8u3396ocscqwJH61V9ACLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B13.52.15.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Shark scored the first goal, as Sharks do. But that was it.<br />
<br />
I wish I had taken a picture if all my 5 Fishermen standing in a circle - with Tentacles holding onto the ball in the middle. The end result was 12-4 to me, after doing 7 takeouts - including the mascot.<br />
<br />
I think this matchup is terrible for Shark. Getting the ball off the Corsair murder ball is just so difficult, and he has to do half of my work for me by feeding me his models to do so.<br />
<br />
So, it's three matches and three wins! I have done much better than I expected, so already I am pretty happy. :D<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 4: Corsair vs Pin Vice</h2>
<br />
Fishermen: Corsair, Tentacles, Angel, Hag, Jac, Gutter<br />
Hunters: Pin Vice, Mother, Compound, Hoist, Locus, Ratchet<br />
<br />
<br />
Fourth game was against Wolfgang Weber from Austria.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QwqPQImpHqs/WwwHVsz14aI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/hLoiAgtjrVIKuOTjZ-GY0qkikr9fySZ6QCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC00896.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1062" data-original-width="1600" height="424" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QwqPQImpHqs/WwwHVsz14aI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/hLoiAgtjrVIKuOTjZ-GY0qkikr9fySZ6QCLcBGAs/s640/DSC00896.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I was getting the fight I was dreading - I have hardly played against Engineers. I think I haven't had any games since last year. I know they are good and a rough matchup for Fishermen. So I let blogging be blogging, took no pictures and focused 100% on the game.<br />
<br />
My opponent got a good setup with Hoist and Ratchet behind a wall shooting things away, preventing drags, and I was not careful to keep my models 3" away from each other, taking a lot of damage that I should not have taken. Also, Pin Vice is quite the monster when she goes in with Tooled Up and Deletion. When I have played against her before it has been more football, but this setup was all damage and tanking.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H8dTg5FRNjE/WwwHV29L3QI/AAAAAAAAHwM/ofq9A5OGp-Q9xnEorn-q73gw1HK8PxjrQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC00900.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1062" data-original-width="1600" height="424" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H8dTg5FRNjE/WwwHV29L3QI/AAAAAAAAHwM/ofq9A5OGp-Q9xnEorn-q73gw1HK8PxjrQCLcBGAs/s640/DSC00900.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I got Hag, Gutter and Tentacles taken out landing behind 0-5, before I scored with Angel and took out Ratchet going to 6-5. Pin Vice then scored a goal, there was one more takeout on each side, and then Tentacles again. I ended up losing 12-9 in the end, after Wolfgang had timed out.<br />
<br />
It was extremely close, his only possible takeout at the end was Tentacles - who I forgot to heal back up. If I had not messed that move up then it's likely that I would have won on activations. But hey, with only two minutes left it gets hard to remember everything!<br />
<br />
Wolfgang played an excellent game, and went on to win the entire tournament. Nicely done!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 5: Corsair vs Theron</h2>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Fishermen: Corsair, Tentacles, Angel, Hag, Jac, Gutter</div>
<div>
Hunters: Theron, Fahad, Chaska, Egret, Jaecar, Zarola<br />
<br />
Last game was against Jan Geric from Slovenia.</div>
<br />
I am totally exhausted now. The Engineer match was really hard and went to time, and the next game was starting right away. My opponent Jan was kind enough to suggest I take a 10 minute break before we start the final match. Thanks Jan, I needed that! :D<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lGUgHgmn70E/WwpzJvnAYAI/AAAAAAAAHuU/8bk566g4IMINfIRSBqTJhIH4nzEZzIL9ACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B18.45.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lGUgHgmn70E/WwpzJvnAYAI/AAAAAAAAHuU/8bk566g4IMINfIRSBqTJhIH4nzEZzIL9ACLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B18.45.59.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I got an early takeout by using the Hag legendary and Fisher's Reel to get Corsair into position to drag. But, I got to see how ridiculously hard Jaecar hits when all the debuffs are stacked. I missed a critical 2 dice Blind, which allowed Jaecar a charge on Corsair, and then he spiked like mad - rolling one single 1 with all his attacks, he rolled 28 dice or something. This was exactly enough damage to take out Corsair.<br />
<br />
I thought I was way ahead, and suddenly things were pretty even again!<br />
<br />
There was a lot of crazyness with dodges, Pinned, Goad, pushes and so on to get things into the right places. Jan did a great job trying to make things hard for me.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UkG6bzZYCUo/WwpzJ62XXGI/AAAAAAAAHuY/mkg8YYv4HkYn7BCvXQecVLYdTx6ENwfxQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B18.45.53.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UkG6bzZYCUo/WwpzJ62XXGI/AAAAAAAAHuY/mkg8YYv4HkYn7BCvXQecVLYdTx6ENwfxQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B18.45.53.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The match ended with Corsair himself landing the decisive goal, on a 3 dice kick needing 5+ to hit. If I had failed then Angel would definitely have died on the next activation. In the end, luck was on my side, and I won 12-10.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kufch-2nPE4/WwpzKezI3EI/AAAAAAAAHuc/-iCRXS7m2Sg3Vn_NKcR8UIRm41rI-JPhACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-28%2B20.08.29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kufch-2nPE4/WwpzKezI3EI/AAAAAAAAHuc/-iCRXS7m2Sg3Vn_NKcR8UIRm41rI-JPhACLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-28%2B20.08.29.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Post Mortem</h2>
I am happy with how this all turned out. Going 4-1 and placing 4th was definitely better than I had expected!<br />
<br />
It was a really great tournament. Well organized, and friendly people all around. I can recommend making the trip, and Budapest is a really nice destination too!<br />
<br />
Afterwards we went out for some well deserved steak and beer at Stex House.<br />
<br />
After that the vacation continued... here my son is steering some bike-car thing we hired out on Magaret Island, dodging pedestrians and buses.<br />
<br />
We biked around, looked at the ruins, and spent a day relaxing and swimming at the pools there.<br />
<br />
<div>

<br />
Our local pundit Stig was happy that someone else was doing it for a change. He has been doing great work building the Guild Ball community in Norway, but really there is no reason why he should do it nearly all by himself.<br />
<br />
I had not used <a href="http://www.longshanks.org/">Longshanks </a>for organizing tournaments before, but it was super easy and totally intuitive. Thanks Sam, for making such an awesome tool!<br />
<br />
I also played, bringing my regular Fish lineup, no surprises:<br />
<br />
Corsair<br />
Shark<br />
<br />
Tentacles<br />
<br />
Angel<br />
Greyscales<br />
Hag<br />
Jac<br />
Sakana<br />
Siren<br />
<br />
Gutter (Union)<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.outland.no/">Outland </a>was so kind as to provide prize support. One free Guild Ball 6-man box to the winner!<br />
<br />
<br />
I have been very busy lately, so I don't have time for the full match reports! Quick recap:<br /><br />
<h2>
Match 1: Corsair vs Piper</h2>
<br />
<br />The first game was vs. the Ratcatchers! I dropped Corsair, because I think he is a much stronger drop than Shark. The Ratcatchers can shoot Shark clean off the table, and he certainly does not want to be snared, diseased and momentum starved. Corsair, on the hand, can pull in the fairly weak Ratcatchers and beat them up.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Some serious gang up bonuses in progress after Scourge elected to charge into the scrum. Poor Scourge!<br />
<br />

Piper got a goal in!<br />

<br />
<br />
The end result was 12-4 to the Fishermen in the middle of round 2. Angel scored 2 goals in 2 rounds, and Corsair had a couple of takeouts.<br />
<br />

<h2>
Match 2: Corsair vs Piper</h2>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
More Rats, this time against Fredrik!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p3qb4Lw-rcs/Wumtukdb7bI/AAAAAAAAHpg/nxYwnFKTpR4x8oLN9Sus5QUhxgJTmBITgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-22%2B13.50.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p3qb4Lw-rcs/Wumtukdb7bI/AAAAAAAAHpg/nxYwnFKTpR4x8oLN9Sus5QUhxgJTmBITgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-22%2B13.50.54.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The game become very tight, with no-one able to command a lead.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iLqEi0PRVPI/WumtvN7dFYI/AAAAAAAAHpk/lXlBaWCbV8s2D6lPW5dLyl3uFMBKv8DQACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-22%2B14.15.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iLqEi0PRVPI/WumtvN7dFYI/AAAAAAAAHpk/lXlBaWCbV8s2D6lPW5dLyl3uFMBKv8DQACLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-22%2B14.15.47.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
We both timed out, but I was one point ahead - until Fredrik managed a takeout on Tentacles and swapped the pressure onto me.<br />
<br />
The end result was 12-11 to the Ratcatchers. Close one! I think this is the 5th game in a row I lose against Fredrik. Damnit! :D<br />
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Match 3: Shark vs Hammer</h2>
<br />
This would be the last game of the tournament. I wanted a fun Shark game, and Masons is one of the matchups I like him in.<br />
<br />
Shark lands the first one, and Hammer gets blinded.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-91xRqgJ2UVk/WumtvcvjwoI/AAAAAAAAHps/zOygk9B32pA-9_d-wMjVXbZiSl8arc1qQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-22%2B15.59.41.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-91xRqgJ2UVk/WumtvcvjwoI/AAAAAAAAHps/zOygk9B32pA-9_d-wMjVXbZiSl8arc1qQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-22%2B15.59.41.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Unfortunately Shark gets pushed into range and then boxed in anyway.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YEKKLT8iCEQ/WumtvytkmEI/AAAAAAAAHpw/08YGYbczSGA0oiQwPYtAq3bUWi_lFV6SACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-04-22%2B16.07.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YEKKLT8iCEQ/WumtvytkmEI/AAAAAAAAHpw/08YGYbczSGA0oiQwPYtAq3bUWi_lFV6SACLcBGAs/s640/2018-04-22%2B16.07.01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Sakana mangages to land the next two goals.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
End result, 12-4 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br /><br />
<h2>
Post Mortem</h2>
<br />
<br />
Ratcatchers sure have a lot of tools, but it seems like it will be tricky for them to get the ball back off Corsair after scoring the first goal - and I think Corsair beats harder, so he will be my drop into them in Hungary next week.<br />
<br /><br /><a href="http://www.longshanks.org/events/?event=950">Event results on Longshanks</a>. Fredrik wins with the Ratcatchers, and I take second.<br />

I think I have lost the last 4 or so games against him. Maybe I can reverse the trend today? He had just picked up Brewers. I considered dropping Shark, who I think is stronger against teams that like to bunch up. But, I wanted to see whether Corsair could actually deal with the Brewer scrum without A&G.<br />

I changed my lineup to see whether Jac's pushing abilities could mess sufficiently with Tapper, or not. Gutter went out.<br />

Round 1</h2>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ywMb64ShlNE/WrF9ZRkduGI/AAAAAAAAHmU/4YooodwOd28L5RHrgZnCqStwCtVjKvnFgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B15.10.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ywMb64ShlNE/WrF9ZRkduGI/AAAAAAAAHmU/4YooodwOd28L5RHrgZnCqStwCtVjKvnFgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B15.10.10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I kick off, and again it is pretty perfect.<br />
<br />
<br />
Corsair: 6, Tentacles: 0, Angel: 1, Hag: 0, Jac: 3, Siren: 3<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dN2TNOzU56M/WrF9ZRTDbHI/AAAAAAAAHmY/6sK8RQd7Bk0pQeZwTaZHcL6bNpakHO5zwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B17.32.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dN2TNOzU56M/WrF9ZRTDbHI/AAAAAAAAHmY/6sK8RQd7Bk0pQeZwTaZHcL6bNpakHO5zwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B17.32.47.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I do drag in Hooper, the other interesting models have been anchored so I cannot drag them in.<br />
<br />
I place Angel too close to the fight and she is taken out by a tooled up Scum. Siren finishes off Hooper after the rest of the team has beaten on him.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 2</h2>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1qdBY6BVo0Y/WrF9cPn9HGI/AAAAAAAAHmk/OgkWvm8PudIQI92f4q_fGIvkvL4Cgsy5gCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B17.56.25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1qdBY6BVo0Y/WrF9cPn9HGI/AAAAAAAAHmk/OgkWvm8PudIQI92f4q_fGIvkvL4Cgsy5gCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B17.56.25.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Tapper moves in on Jac and has the hottest dice, soloing him - in cover and on full health! He lands the KD, the Commanding Aura, and with his last 4 attacks he needs 27 out of 28 dice to hit on 2+. I computed it afterwards and the odds were about 2% for that result. This really gave me huge problems, losing all of Jac's attacks meant that I was now losing the scrum.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p97EJgYu-Nw/WrF9cQvsdYI/AAAAAAAAHms/1NQK51EKaSMAPDzUy1NCJith2nLYLNFdACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B18.20.06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p97EJgYu-Nw/WrF9cQvsdYI/AAAAAAAAHms/1NQK51EKaSMAPDzUy1NCJith2nLYLNFdACLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B18.20.06.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Losing a bit of track of the games notes here since I am getting a bit tired.<br />
<br />
Friday scores, and Angel scores, and first Hag and then Siren gets beaten up. Brewers take it, 6-12!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VJd1woqPPWs/WrF9cfQNflI/AAAAAAAAHmo/dsZMfkuAIVYTxUo1SFBcwQcQRwv9nbaJgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B18.43.46.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VJd1woqPPWs/WrF9cfQNflI/AAAAAAAAHmo/dsZMfkuAIVYTxUo1SFBcwQcQRwv9nbaJgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B18.43.46.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Taking out Tough Hide models really sucks without any access to damage buffs. Next time, I will drop Shark!<br />
<br />
The end result of the tournament was 3-1 to me and Fredrik- but I won on strength of schedule. My very first tournament win in Guild Ball! The prize: Limited Rage (yay!) - and a gift card from Outland that I convert into a Shadespire starter. :D<br />
<br />
It was a fun event, well organized by Stig, as always!<br />

Siren gets 3 influence so that I can threaten to take the ball off. Gaute only allocated 2 to Flint, making it hard for him to get completely into safety behind cover.</div>

<br />
<br />
The ball gets passed to Harmony, who chain links. Unfortunately Tentacles gets a free strike, grabs the ball, and with Close Control Harmony is not able to get it off again.<br />
<br />
Corsair then beats up Harmony, and Gutter takes out Flint. Brick takes out Hag. 4-2 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 3</h2>
<br />
<br />
Gutter is ready to score.<br />
<br />
<br />
Corsair: 6, Tentacles: 1, Angel: 4, Hag: 0, Siren: 0, Gutter: 3<br />

<br />
Another screamer for my Angel! 8-2 to the Fishermen.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 4</h2>
<br />
Lots of models have returned on the left flank.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jRgI3VcewzI/WrFybwmrggI/AAAAAAAAHlk/48q2WooUn2caHQuEt0lvnCIKXBBUtzcSwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B16.27.40.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jRgI3VcewzI/WrFybwmrggI/AAAAAAAAHlk/48q2WooUn2caHQuEt0lvnCIKXBBUtzcSwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B16.27.40.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There is a lot of combat - Angel ends up taking out Flint (!), Honor retaliates by taking out Gutter.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 5</h2>
<br />
Finally Corsair slides forward across the rough ground and punches up Mallet. 12-4 is the final score!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A very different game from the last one, quite grindy. Corsair and Gutter sure can deal out the damage!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Normally the tournament would have ended at this point, but we decided to extend it with a round since we had several out of town visitors.</div>

<h2>
Round 1</h2>
<br />
Corsair: 6, Tentacles: 1, Angel: 3, Hag: 0, Siren: 1, Gutter: 2<br />
<br />
With Hag and dodges, a centrally placed Angel is quite able to score a first turn goal, so that is what I am going for.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N6KQL63aEJY/WrFqKeBvjkI/AAAAAAAAHkI/USSQrzvZX2kpzm__y-LJV29sX7Lxi11EACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B12.47.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N6KQL63aEJY/WrFqKeBvjkI/AAAAAAAAHkI/USSQrzvZX2kpzm__y-LJV29sX7Lxi11EACLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B12.47.20.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It works perfectly, Angel zooms up and kicks it into the goal. 4-0 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ibwIs-Ut_Q/WrFqMeEF6-I/AAAAAAAAHkM/W699xW9TT1kKdNANEAHPzRk04gtPrytOACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-17%2B12.58.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ibwIs-Ut_Q/WrFqMeEF6-I/AAAAAAAAHkM/W699xW9TT1kKdNANEAHPzRk04gtPrytOACLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-17%2B12.58.02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Veteran Harmony stands in a position to out her aura on all the team mates I can reach (except Brick, but I don't want that dude). So I risk a bonus timed Drag directly on her, and it lands. Harmony ends up knocked down and at 2 health, surrounded by Corsair's posse.<br />
<br />
Flint gets a double activation, but his goal kick misses!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Gutter takes out Veteran Harmony. It's inconvenient for me to contest the ball right anyway, and I am happy to get a goal kick. Flint picks up the ball and taps it in. I then kick the ball up to Angel who casually strolls up and scores a screamer. 10-4 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Veteran Harmony then goes into Angel, taking her out. 10-6, it's looking good.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 3</h2>
<br />
I can try to go for another goal, but I decide to just end it as soon as possible. I play Lone Striker. Corsair uses his six influence, trundles over to Flint, knocks him to the ground, and beats him up. 12-6 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Angel is just... wow. Getting a first turn goal with Corsair is awesome, and with her high defense she is hard to deal with. <br />
Angel puts up Nimble, walks up into cover, and tackles the ball off Hearth. It's a screamer! 4-0 to the Fishermen.<br />

<br />
<br />
The ball is passed to Iron, who unfortunately has to get out of Corsair's melee to score. He is knocked down on the parting blow. Corsair grabs the ball, uses One Leg Stance, and Angel then does a 5 dice snap shot - another screamer! 8-0 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br />
<br />

Eight players showed up from nearby cities - two from Kongsberg and one from Gjøvik. Very nice to see more Guild Ball players popping up in Norway!<br />
<br />
My plan this time was to try out Corsair as much as possible. Corsair got nerfed by losing access to Avarisse & Greede, which makes his list punch a lot less hard. I think this was a good change. I found the previous list overpowered and rather dull. I did have time for a couple of games with him earlier in the week (been too busy for match reports - sorry), and while the new list is probably a bit less powerful overall, Corsair is still very good, and it is certainly a hell of lot more fun to play.<br />
<br />
I had played around with some different list options, and ended up with this roster:<br />
<br />
<h2>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E2CN7g4gO4M/Wq-3FxmT7LI/AAAAAAAAHiY/orEHoMZRQWUXgJnA7kODLwYwsVGUh7u_ACLcBGAs/s1600/GB-Season3-Fishermen-11.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="500" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E2CN7g4gO4M/Wq-3FxmT7LI/AAAAAAAAHiY/orEHoMZRQWUXgJnA7kODLwYwsVGUh7u_ACLcBGAs/s320/GB-Season3-Fishermen-11.png" width="228" /></a>Fishermen</h2>
<br />
<br />
Corsair<br />
Shark<br />
Salt<br />
Tentacles<br />
Angel<br />
Greyscales<br />
Hag<br />
Jac<br />
Siren<br />
Gutter (Union)<br />
<br />
<h3>
Shark</h3>
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RRiSE8bIZBs/Wq-3F69OesI/AAAAAAAAHiU/ChEgJRhVgYodutdu1H7tUapEVpeXP3FAgCLcBGAs/s1600/GB-Season3-Fishermen-12.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="500" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RRiSE8bIZBs/Wq-3F69OesI/AAAAAAAAHiU/ChEgJRhVgYodutdu1H7tUapEVpeXP3FAgCLcBGAs/s320/GB-Season3-Fishermen-12.png" width="228" /></a>Shark - Salt/Tentacles - Angel - Greyscales - Hag - Siren<br />
<br />
More or less the Shark list I have been playing, but trying out Angel instead of Sakana. Three strikers, Siren for ball grabbing, Hag for the extra threat, and Salt or Tentacles depending on the enemy team.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Corsair</h3>
<br />
Corsair - Tentacles - Angel - Hag - Siren - Jac/Gutter<br />
<br />
My plan would be to put Angel, preferably in cover, within 8" of the enemy goal, get the ball off the opposing team with Angel and Corsair, and then use her to snap shot in the goals.<br />
<br />
<br />
If the stars are right, you can get:<br />
<br />
Angel (4/8")<br />
Angel's Super Shot (+1/+2")<br />
Corsair's One Leg Stance (+1/+2")<br />
Keep The Ball Moving (+1/0)<br />
Bonus Time<br />
<br />
For a total of 8 dice, that is 96.5% chance to score snap shots at 12" range. :D<br />
<br />
Of course that combo does not happen every game, but it does not require much setup (Activate Angel, use Super Shot + Nimble, snap shot with bonus time) to get to 6 dice and a pretty decent 89.1% chance to score. It's better odds than a 3 dice kick!<br />
<br />
I would use Gutter if I played an opponent where getting several takeouts seemed fairly likely. and Jac against tankier lists where it is useful to control and break up the scrum by pushing away key opposing pieces.<br />
<br />

In case you have been living in a cave, Thresher, Millstone and Tater got significant nerfs, mostly related to influence and ranges to harvest markers. Fishermen lost Avarisse & Greede.<br />
<br />
So, Alexander and I decided to try out a classic Thresher lineup vs a more football-oriented Corsair team. I wanted to give Jac a spin since I haven't played him for a long time, and Greyscales so that I can have someone jumping around near the enemy goal.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Fishermen</h2>
<br />
Corsair<br />
Tentacles<br />
Greyscales<br />
Hag<br />
Jac<br />
Siren<br />
<br />
<h2>
Farmers</h2>
<br />
Thresher<br />
Peck<br />
Harrow<br />
Jackstraw<br />
Millstone<br />
Tater<br />
<br />
<br />
We decided to play with the new cards as well, which were released today! I ended up with<br />
<br />
Go for the Knees<br />
Hunker Down<br />
Keep Your Chin Up<br />
Lone Striker<br />
Seize the Initiative<br />
<br />
I decide to receive, and Thresher lands a beautiful kick far off to the side.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 1</h2>
<br />
Corsair: 6, Tentacles: 2, Greyscales: 2, Jac: 2, Hag: 0, Siren: 1<br />
Thresher: 5, Peck: 1, Jackstraw: 2, Millstone: 2, Harrow: 1, Tater: 1<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2ssGh6yGgQw/WqGswETtyfI/AAAAAAAAHhI/_Y0DdurGHQIlhnRE3aNJ1v6lka8vVbGTACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B18.24.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2ssGh6yGgQw/WqGswETtyfI/AAAAAAAAHhI/_Y0DdurGHQIlhnRE3aNJ1v6lka8vVbGTACLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B18.24.10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I pass the ball along from Jac, to Siren, to Tentacles, who dodges up so he gets in range to hit a bonus timed Blind on Thresher. Afterwards I try to drag Thresher away from his harvest-marker and into Corsair, so that he will suffer two crowdouts + Blind, but 5 dice on two Drags is not enough to hit. This allows Thresher to get his 3" melee and deal 8 damage to Corsair.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 2</h2>
<br />
Corsair: 3, Tentacles: 2, Greyscales: 3, Jac: 2, Hag: 0, Siren: 3. Seize the Initiative (+3/+1)<br />
Thresher: 5, Peck: 1, Jackstraw: 2, Millstone: 2, Harrow: 2, Tater: 1. Won't Touch the Hair (+7/0)<br />
<br />
I play Seize the Initiative to dodge Corsair backwards and make it harder for the Farmers to delete him in their first activation.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x1J7_A_Kluc/WqGswACCNEI/AAAAAAAAHhE/UfkrNa57Ti8gfON2aPppGDMgwmIeNmtMwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B18.51.51.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x1J7_A_Kluc/WqGswACCNEI/AAAAAAAAHhE/UfkrNa57Ti8gfON2aPppGDMgwmIeNmtMwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B18.51.51.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My plan here is to start by passing the ball from Tentacles to Greyscales, get a momentum, and bonus time a Blind on Thresher. The pass succeeds and it hits, so it's the second turn of -2 TAC for the old man. I seem to cheat on my next activation, and kick without having momentum. However, I suffer instant karma and roll 1-1-2 on the tap in.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zOXlhSrCHi4/WqGsy872n8I/AAAAAAAAHhM/WeiVlJyYUrsV5d_i8qHuI_XbQjSKfe-CQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B18.56.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zOXlhSrCHi4/WqGsy872n8I/AAAAAAAAHhM/WeiVlJyYUrsV5d_i8qHuI_XbQjSKfe-CQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B18.56.47.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Serves you right, cheater.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Harrow then grabs the ball and kicks it to Jackstraw. Sexy Siren seduces the scarecrow and the ball gets passed to Tentacles. I start hitting on Millstone, leaving her at 11 health. I then pull in Thresher so he ends up at only 3 TAC with the crowd outs, which is sad. He does a some damage, still, and Corsair ends up at 8 health.<br />
<br />
It's still 0-0 after round 2!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 3</h2>
<br />
Corsair: 3, Tentacles: 2, Greyscales: 4, Jac: 4, Hag: 0, Siren: 0. Go for the Knees (+5/0)<br />
Thresher: 5, Peck: 1, Jackstraw: 3, Millstone: 1, Harrow: 2, Tater: 4. The Offside Trap (+1/+1)<br />
<br />
I plan to take out Millstone in the first activation with Jac, so I use Go for the Knees to give him an extra TAC. Thresher decides to make my goal scoring harder with The Offside Trap.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CoqcJKJQgYA/WqGszIVORII/AAAAAAAAHhQ/NerFGb8fqOcPhm9l2Athj8L1Nb5mL0P9ACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B19.27.18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CoqcJKJQgYA/WqGszIVORII/AAAAAAAAHhQ/NerFGb8fqOcPhm9l2Athj8L1Nb5mL0P9ACLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B19.27.18.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Jac activates first and takes out Millstone on the third blow. Thresher goes next, uses his Legendary, and the pirate falls. Tentacles skirts around Jackstraw and fails a 1 die pass to Greyscales, but no problem. After I build some momentum, Greyscales pays 2 momentum (because of The Offside Trap). This time the tap in succeeds, which is only fair since I paid this time. 6-2 to the Fishermen!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6L_G84_cQyU/WqGs1Ux5GAI/AAAAAAAAHhY/v3nxnltu3WsAZ2xezsnrNUm3wsPQerirACLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B19.42.24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6L_G84_cQyU/WqGs1Ux5GAI/AAAAAAAAHhY/v3nxnltu3WsAZ2xezsnrNUm3wsPQerirACLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B19.42.24.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The ball is kicked out to Jackstraw, who gets in position for next turn.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 4</h2>
<br />
I forgot to note down the influence. I played Hunker Down and Thresher plays Get Back something something or other to speed up Millstone's return. We're a bit unsure if the movement bonus is for the entire turn, but we played it like that.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7UKl242j1Cc/WqGs2Js-yhI/AAAAAAAAHhc/n6xzLVx1BYg2vl7cjM8rqeEVMKeS_B4yQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B19.51.09.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7UKl242j1Cc/WqGs2Js-yhI/AAAAAAAAHhc/n6xzLVx1BYg2vl7cjM8rqeEVMKeS_B4yQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B19.51.09.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Since I have engaged Jackstraw with Siren in base to base last turn, and it's actually not that easy for him to get out of there and score. So he does a teleport chain and the ball is then passed to Thresher. Siren seduces Thresher, gets the ball, dodges away, and drops it as far away as she can.<br />
<br />
Tater is still able to reach it by sprinting, he grabs the ball and passes it to Thresher, who scores. It's 6-6, but I will get the ball now so it's looking good. The ball gets passed to Corsair who kicks it up near Greyscales, He runs back, grabs the ball, and Millstone can't really touch him.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-831tfcDSU6M/WqGs2NMrGMI/AAAAAAAAHhg/N7_AE5U1bIAi35o1_MpLJeQIkVDwXXQYgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B20.11.44.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-831tfcDSU6M/WqGs2NMrGMI/AAAAAAAAHhg/N7_AE5U1bIAi35o1_MpLJeQIkVDwXXQYgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B20.11.44.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 5</h2>
<br />
Corsair: 6, Tentacles: 1, Greyscales: 4, Jac: 2, Hag: 0, Siren: 0. Lone Striker (+7/-1)<br />
Did not note Farmers influence, they play Back in the Game (+4/0)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qtl-fAoMaeI/WqGs2_geSzI/AAAAAAAAHhk/mBVe_gxfOTs-PkKg8fAHdCkKU1vijTqbwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B20.23.04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qtl-fAoMaeI/WqGs2_geSzI/AAAAAAAAHhk/mBVe_gxfOTs-PkKg8fAHdCkKU1vijTqbwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B20.23.04.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Tater is too close to Corsair now. I drag him to get the gang up from Siren, so I am still at 6 TAC. He is at 7 health right now, so Corsair takes him out easily. 8-6! Then Greyscales taps it in again. Fishermen win 12-6!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MjOzdTWnyGw/WqGs3wH0GBI/AAAAAAAAHho/nYoVZo596DkBMw0zACDcWcEOYDkLGlP-wCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-03-08%2B20.30.36.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MjOzdTWnyGw/WqGs3wH0GBI/AAAAAAAAHho/nYoVZo596DkBMw0zACDcWcEOYDkLGlP-wCLcBGAs/s640/2018-03-08%2B20.30.36.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<h2>
Post Mortem</h2>
<br />
Well, that was interesting! I am not sure if just playing football with Corsair is the best, or if I maybe should grab Gutter instead of Jac. Jac hits pretty hard, but getting no momentum on damage does not feel so great. Corsair + Gutter should be able to reliably take out one enemy player together, at least. The double takeouts with A&G are a thing of the past, I think.<br />
<br />
The Farmers still seem pretty good, and they still do what they did, but the reduced harvest-marker ranges gives much more counterplay. Also, not having them at a permanent 15ish influence the entire game helps quite a lot. I think that nerf is maybe the strongest, dropping Millstone from 3 to 2 influence.<br />
<br />
My initial impression is that they are balanced now. Certainly Thresher, Millstone and Tater are still plenty strong - they did not really lose any of their tools, but it is much harder to set it all up now.<br />
<br />
The new Gameplans are fantastic fun. Very cool minigame, and mechanically it works a hell of a lot better than the always forgotten Plot cards. So, well done Steamforged! You have some ace designers.<br />
<br />

<br />
The three best Farmer models have been getting extensive nerfs, and Corsair has lost access to Avarisse & Greede.<br /><br /><a href="http://steamforged.com/sfg-news-blog/gb-errata-march-18">Errata blog post at Steamforged</a>.<br />
<br />
So, I guess I will have to do some thinking and testing, since these were the lists I have currently been playing! The nerf to Farmers is pretty significant. Having to eat the harvest markers for several of the abilities, plus shorter ranges to the markers to trigger them, is going to make them a bit trickier to play. They will probably be playing with around around 2 less effective influence now. They did not really lose much of their excellent defensive tech, though.<br />
<br />
Corsair losing access to A&G means that Corsair probably has to play a more football-oriented game. I'll probably be looking at either keeping it beaty with Gutter, or making a more pure footballing list.<br />

Day 1</h2>
<br />
Today we went to the store and got hold of a Dodge Ram (for my son) and a Ford Fairlane (for me, keeping it classy). Plastic board and tubing has been purchased. Tomorrow we will start adding on the guns and armor plating, and get these little guys ready for the post-apocalypse!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I am looking forward to this, I haven't really done any real hobby projects since picking up miniatures again, just spent all the time painting and playing. <a href="http://gaslands.com/">Gaslands</a> seems pretty much the perfect game to focus on the hobby side of miniature gaming, I hope my son will enjoy it as well!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Day 2</h2>
<br />
Two hours of cutting and gluing!<br />
<br />

Cars outfitted with guns, spikes, and armor plating! My son cut out little foam figures as well, to man the turret on his Dodge Ram and wave guns out the windows.<br />

I have to admit his is already cooler than mine. Next step will be priming the models!<br />

I had two decisive losses, and a headache that was getting steadily worse (not why I lost, I got totally outplayed!). I decided to drop from the Saturday tournament and get better instead.<br />
<br />
I took some headache pills, got some rest and food, and when I was feeling well again I decided to try out some of the miniature games being demoed.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Godtear</h2>
<br />
The first one I checked out was Godtear from Steamforged. It was an early alpha version.<br />
<br />
You had a couple of champions with associated minions that moved around on a hex grid, where they could move and bash the other player's dudes. The main ways of scoring was planting flags or beating up enemy models.<br />
<br />
The game was pretty complicated. You had two different phases, where one was each player taking his turn, and the other one had each model take his turn. The cards were flipped an abilities changed between each phase. Also, there were 5 different special dice, and the dice types you rolled changed based on the number of models in a hex as well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UH1g6R4lRw4/Wo9E99lfd-I/AAAAAAAAHec/N7BbqIjuAH8ZY2stS1B3TLnr9C3nWbq0gCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-17%2B17.14.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UH1g6R4lRw4/Wo9E99lfd-I/AAAAAAAAHec/N7BbqIjuAH8ZY2stS1B3TLnr9C3nWbq0gCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-17%2B17.14.54.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A bunch of good looking models fighting over some rather plain looking hexes.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
In addition, you could apply statuses, which were dice on the board. There was no real room for these dice, so at times it was unclear which dice belonged to which model.<br />
<br />
Overall the early alpha prototype felt like an early alpha prototype. It was overly complicated, without any clear benefit gained. I had no inclination to giving it another go after the first game. The rules need to be simpler, less fiddly and more streamlined. Also, blocking off and killing banners is not a very exciting mechanic.<br />
<br />
Well, it's early days, I guess, I'd be happy to try it again some time in the future. The models were pretty nice,. I especially liked the big golem and demon.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Gaslands</h2>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MEZIeTAWMtE/Wo9FAoB1_9I/AAAAAAAAHeo/KQlSPxWoAt8TOaevGCwRFXJqNGPxphwxQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-17%2B20.20.08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MEZIeTAWMtE/Wo9FAoB1_9I/AAAAAAAAHeo/KQlSPxWoAt8TOaevGCwRFXJqNGPxphwxQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-17%2B20.20.08.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next game was <a href="http://gaslands.com/">Gaslands</a>, a crazy Mad Max inspired racing game using Matchbox cars instead of miniatures. The movement was done in X-Wing style, placing a movement template, moving your car, and rolling dice to see how well (or, quite often, totally disastrous) it went.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L7YtQYCcZE4/Wo9E-gMSHsI/AAAAAAAAHek/dq6gy8sV_T8QMHDntbnXRRyer5_zlTtUwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-17%2B19.14.57.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L7YtQYCcZE4/Wo9E-gMSHsI/AAAAAAAAHek/dq6gy8sV_T8QMHDntbnXRRyer5_zlTtUwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-17%2B19.14.57.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was hilarious. Fast play, great risk/reward mechanics as higher speeds changed your movement options and made things harder, but allowed you to do more moves and get further in a turn.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LAkSbebEfqg/Wo9E9_P166I/AAAAAAAAHeg/zM8F3e-0ONMWasRVndvuXuxR2NbLi043wCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-17%2B19.17.52.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LAkSbebEfqg/Wo9E9_P166I/AAAAAAAAHeg/zM8F3e-0ONMWasRVndvuXuxR2NbLi043wCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-17%2B19.17.52.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A super enthusiastic guy was holding the demos.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Cars flipped and crashed and spun around, but sometimes you could take the negative effects and turn them into something positive, like trying to spin and slide into better positions. There was a very thematic rule that if you were in a situation where you were not sure if (say) two cars were colliding, whatever would cause the most damage would be the result!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://giphy.com/gifs/shiny-chrome-witness-me-Fw4bCY96f97vW">via GIPHY</a><br />
<br />
<br />
I don't think it would work well as a competitive game, since you would have effects like a longer car model actually going faster. But for a crazy and not so serious beer-and-pretzels game, it seemed perfect. I can only imagine the mayhem if you were playing a handful of players. Definitely the best and most original of the new games I tried out over the weekend!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Mythos</h2>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qUSRUXVbRaI/Wo9FCyiOEaI/AAAAAAAAHe4/26KrkyWgTDoUnVYsuI0dz2Gsx2-FpgBeQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-18%2B13.04.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qUSRUXVbRaI/Wo9FCyiOEaI/AAAAAAAAHe4/26KrkyWgTDoUnVYsuI0dz2Gsx2-FpgBeQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-18%2B13.04.02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There was one single table which was busy all of Saturday, and that was Mythos from <a href="http://www.paranoid-miniatures.com/">Paranoid Miniatures</a>. On Sunday morning I went straight there to get a demo game. I am a big Lovecraft fan, so I was looking forward to this one.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jhg14cTpnhI/Wo9FBHD4N-I/AAAAAAAAHes/ZdypQfqhCikDFk77g9VEVt5NnULaNMvJwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-18%2B09.09.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jhg14cTpnhI/Wo9FBHD4N-I/AAAAAAAAHes/ZdypQfqhCikDFk77g9VEVt5NnULaNMvJwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-18%2B09.09.13.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My squad of brave investigators</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I picked the good guys in the Priory: One mad professor and his cat, a guy with a flamethrower and a crush on his fellow archeologist spellcaster, and a golem.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CJY3lKw2JXc/Wo9FBJ9V_MI/AAAAAAAAHew/vhIR_nYcEKAmGjEdsqu7Rky6JCFWV-M0QCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-18%2B09.09.22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CJY3lKw2JXc/Wo9FBJ9V_MI/AAAAAAAAHew/vhIR_nYcEKAmGjEdsqu7Rky6JCFWV-M0QCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-18%2B09.09.22.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The professor and his cat</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
It was a well executed game, I think. Typical X-Com style play, where each models gets two activations that can be used for anything. Abilities were opposed dice rolls, so you could for example attack someone in melee, and if the defender won, the attacker would take damage.<br />
<br />
Of course, there was insanity involved! When characters go mad and flip out their cards are flipped, changing the character stats and abilities. Also, they then start to roll for whether they go limp with fear, or maybe even run away. I felt that the insanity effects were a bit bland, mostly a status effect. It worked fine mechanically, but perhaps adding a card deck of all kinds of phobias would be more thematic and fun!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZN5GAQgWhLQ/Wo9FCJeRgdI/AAAAAAAAHe0/azft9fbHIyAN5_wsqFAZCZ--pTSEHwaRQCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-18%2B10.06.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZN5GAQgWhLQ/Wo9FCJeRgdI/AAAAAAAAHe0/azft9fbHIyAN5_wsqFAZCZ--pTSEHwaRQCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-18%2B10.06.01.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Very nice looking board that they had built</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
There was also a pool of Myth you could use to fire special abilities, but it did not seem to prevent you from doing anything. It seemed like a lot of bookkeeping for little in game effect, I think it could just be removed.<br />
<br />
All in all a decent game, good flow, well designed. I would be happy to play it again!<br />
<br />
<h2>
Some Mage Duel Game That I Forget What Was Called</h2>
<br />
The game was intended to simulate epic mage combat, but it felt more like epic bookkeeping. You had one or two models a side, that did some damage, applied some debuffs, or moved the opponent around a bit. Few models meant few positioning options, and many of the spells did fairly similar things (I had 4 spells that would cause the opponent's activation to cost more actions, for example).<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aedF-VHRa8U/Wo9FDDibmnI/AAAAAAAAHe8/XJ7sf2a8rOY2ScpxV5v9opU1UAgNBZKewCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-18%2B11.32.32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aedF-VHRa8U/Wo9FDDibmnI/AAAAAAAAHe8/XJ7sf2a8rOY2ScpxV5v9opU1UAgNBZKewCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-18%2B11.32.32.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Very nice looking game board!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
When I thought it was over, it turned out that my opponent had a 60% death save, for some inexplicable reason. I had to kill him six times before he finally rolled a 7+ on a D10... I mean, come on, really, some luck is fine, but don't have mechanics like that.<br />
<br />
Not sure if a 1vs1 Wizard battle is really a good idea for a miniatures game, it seems like something that might be better as a card game.<br />
<br />
The miniatures were good looking, and they had made a beautiful board to play on.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Summary</h2>
<br />
Great to see so many new games being demoed! There were more games as well, but these four demos where what I had time for.<br />

I go for a pure scoring team with Shark. Salt is a pretty good ball carrier here, since his kick is a very short 4". It's hard for Obulus to get the ball of him reliably.<br />

Siren has 3 so that I have the possibility of getting the ball back if it gets stolen.<br />

I get the ball over to Salt. Sakana gets pulled in by Obulus. Shark is able to get the first goal. 4-0 to the Fishermen!<br />

There are quite a lot of obstacles so it's going to be interesting to see who gets those drags off.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GZJNKQqGJ4I/Wo82A9dKflI/AAAAAAAAHc4/ep5kmXFCbH0lpeTDOfUi_OdQg6VNxkn0QCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-16%2B16.38.30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GZJNKQqGJ4I/Wo82A9dKflI/AAAAAAAAHc4/ep5kmXFCbH0lpeTDOfUi_OdQg6VNxkn0QCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-16%2B16.38.30.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's mostly positioning in the first round. My Veteran Siren gets pulled out of position by Nasty Siren, and ends up knocked down.<br />
<br />
<br />
Round 2<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gGP3-ZWFnFE/Wo82AqJuiII/AAAAAAAAHc0/gYWA7164TYg6S5Rsbcxa9RqVCb0EnzBzwCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-16%2B16.56.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gGP3-ZWFnFE/Wo82AqJuiII/AAAAAAAAHc0/gYWA7164TYg6S5Rsbcxa9RqVCb0EnzBzwCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-16%2B16.56.01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Veteran Siren gets beaten up. I then drag in Nasty Corsair and take him out. 2-2.<br />
<br />
<br />
Round 3<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mrnk3-Cl4nI/Wo82DOk-amI/AAAAAAAAHdA/ZT8-o-G642YotKSoNcOzYG3VUbuS7E5kgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-16%2B17.17.19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mrnk3-Cl4nI/Wo82DOk-amI/AAAAAAAAHdA/ZT8-o-G642YotKSoNcOzYG3VUbuS7E5kgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-16%2B17.17.19.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Gutter kills off Nice Tentacles, and Siren gets the ball and scores. Aaron is ahead, 2-7. Nasty Hag hides behind a wall, and I am unable to get any good drags off.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Round 4</h2>
<br />
Nasty Corsair takes out Nice Hag, and Avarisse and Greed get a takeout, I think it was Corsair again. Siren grabs the ball and scores one more time. 13-4 to Aaron!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4y7972IRxps/Wo82DD74-AI/AAAAAAAAHc8/DuFJVRb6LnQfeoVVyYxY8NLUKkwIW3lmgCLcBGAs/s1600/2018-02-16%2B17.33.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4y7972IRxps/Wo82DD74-AI/AAAAAAAAHc8/DuFJVRb6LnQfeoVVyYxY8NLUKkwIW3lmgCLcBGAs/s640/2018-02-16%2B17.33.20.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Aaron was way better at using the obstacles to deny me the good engagements. I thought I had a chance when I got his Corsair early. Veteran Siren was probably a mistake here, I should have taken normal Siren as well. It's quite important to have two models than can reposition the enemies.<br />
<br />
2-2 so far, it's going well! Final match, it's a <a href="http://blog.lightningshroud.com/2018/02/guild-ball-51-bonescon-2018-match-5.html">grave matter</a>.<br />
